Ashkhabad authorities decided to remove satellite dishes that affect the view of the capital of Turkmenistan.
According to Azatlyk local radio, the process is in full swing, and many houses have already been deprived of their satellite dishes not fitting “well-appointed” looks of Ashkhabad. In general, citizens are sympathetic to the initiative of municipal authorities to refine and improve the capital, but they are not sure the removal of individual receiving dishes to be inspired just by a desire of making city more beautiful.
Alternatively, the municipal authorities offer subscribers to use services of cable TV network operated by Turkmentelecom public company.
The service provided by this company may be called “cable TV” just provisionally. Unlike the cable TV in other countries, the Turkmen version stipulates setting 3 or 4 dishes on a roof, which transmit signal via cable to subscribers.
Set dishes are focused on 4 geostationary satellites: Astra 5B (31.5 ° E), Yamal 300K / 401 (90 ° E), Eutelsat Hot Bird (13 ° E), Türksat (42 ° E), so they can receive signals of Turkmen Turkish and Russian channels. Using so-called “cable TV” will cost subscribers 5 manats (TMT) per month.
Turkmentelecom operator started providing cable broadcasting services in the Turkmen capital about 5 years ago, but until now users have been complaining of technical problems and broadcasting failures.
