The economic crises didn’t affect the IP television’s growing popularity. This is especially evident in Moscow region, where IPTV spins up and already competes with the cable television. The experts attribute it mainly to the convenience for subscribers to use the same port for accessing Internet and watching TV broadcasting, which is, by the way, provided in the best quality. The providers, in turn, are also interested in such a combination, as due to widening services they can reduce prices.
Sure, we can speak about serious competition with the cable television in the remote future, but the background for it is already available now. Thus, according to IKS-Consulting Company engaged in telecommunications marketing research, the IP television’s market share in Moscow region increased by 2% for the first three months of 2015, amounting for 11% of total pay television. The importance of this telecommunications market’s segment is emphasized also by the interest expressed by three largest Russian media holdings.
Moscow IP television market is shared by MTS (40%), VimpelCom (40%), 2COM (14%). The remaining 6% is distributed among other companies providing this service. After Rostelecom’s entry into the IPTV market in 2014 with its largest subscriber network, the competition will become even more serious.
According to analyst companies, more specifically Digital TV Research, the pay television in Eastern Europe will become more popular and its market will grow by 17% or 1 billion dollars in 2020. Under this Company’s expectations, the digital pay television will show greater growth, increasing its segment by 47% in 2020, what will bring TV companies 2,2 billion dollars. IP television providers’ revenues will increase by 56%.
