New Russian telecommunications satellite Express-AM6 went into service in 53°E orbital position.

The Spacecraft (SC) Express-AM6 is placed into one of the key orbital positions.
As the Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC) reports, at 53°E that new satellite ensures a reliable coverage of Russia, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia. Thus, the RSCC space orbital constellation now consists of 11 satellites (including 7 Express-AM satellites and two Express-AT direct broadcast vehicles).
Express-AM6’s commissioning took place in full concordance with the schedule and the experts’ estimates. The development of the Russian constellation not only enhances reliability of the whole system, but also allows maintaining orbital positions, according to O.G.Dukhovnitsky, the Head of the Federal Communications Agency.
In view of starting normal operation of the Express-AM6 SC, the Express-AM22 satellite operating at 53°E until now is planed to move to 80°E position in future.
The Express-AM6 Russian satellite, commissioned by the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Satellite Communications, was manufactured by JSC Information Satellite Systems n.a. Academician M.F. Reshetnev in cooperation with the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Scientific Research Institute of Radio and MDA Corporation (Canada). Express-AM6 is made pursuant to the Federal Target Program of Broadcasting Development in the Russian Federation in 2009-2015 within the Russian Federal Space Program which for the period of up to 2015. The Express-AM6 satellite is equipped with 72 transponders of C-, Ku-, Ka- and L- bands based on the Express-2000 platform (sharable resource over 2700 MHz). The SC’s intended service lifetime is 15 years.
Express-AM6 is designed to provide TV and radio broadcasting services (including problem addressing of the Federal Target Program of Broadcasting Development in the Russian Federation in 2009-2015), high-speed data transmission and broadband access to information resources (in the perspective Ka- frequency band), multimedia services, telephony and mobile communications in the European part of Russia, Ural Region and West Siberia. The resources of the Express-AM6 satellite are also expected to use for implementing international projects for the benefit of Russian and foreign users in Africa, Europe and the Middle East.
