In March, the Belorussian court adjudicated in the case of a citizen of the Republic of Belarus, involved in selling equipment with a piracy viewing option, specifically of the channels incorporated in the packages of the Russian operator Tricolor TV.

The Pirate was charged by order of the court to pay a fine of BYR 36 million (USD 150 thousand), as well as to cover damages to the state of BYR 16.5 million (USD 2 thousand). His property and private car were arrested as well.
The investigation conducted for about 1.5 years evidenced that the citizen of Belarus had operated illegally since 2011 by distributing counterfeit smart cards in Grodno Region. There were identified totally 55 facts of violation. The accused also installed satellite equipment with malware, which allowed users to obtain access to viewing digital TV channels by means of card sharing.
This is not the first case when the Russian pay-TV operator has filed legal actions against TV pirates. As Mediasat wrote before, Tricolor TV has been fighting against them both in Russia and in neighboring countries.
