The leading Russian Company in the field of satellite construction has been actively working on the design of a new platform for constructing communications vehicles. This is reported by RIA Novosti.

According to the information announced by Yuri Vygonskiy, deputy chief designer of the Concern Information Satellite Systems named after Academician Reshetnev, during the Tehnoprom conference, we can expect the design of new systems for constructing geostationary satellites in the coming years.

It is expected that these platforms will be based on a fundamentally different power supply scheme, what will increase many times the efficiency of solar batteries they operate on. These platforms will replace currently used systems of Express range, on which the communications satellites are based on, including the actual most powerful ones like Express AM5 and Express AM6, with power capacity of 12.5 kW.

The successful operation of a satellite of such a power capacity became a huge national industry’s achievement, but ISS employees are not going to repose on their laurels, actively working on a new assignment like to design a platform, which capacity will reach up to 18-20 kW.

According to Vygonskiy, the company requires some more years to design a new platform. The concern’s management expects that this project will go on obtaining state funding under the space program for 2016-2025. The working title of the project is Yenisei.

The Concern Information Satellite Systems named after Academician Reshetnev is one of the leading companies in the world. Over the past few decades it designed 1200 communications spacecrafts, and over 40 systems were successfully launched into space.
