The Georgian Ministry of Economy explained why the authorities postponed the analog shut off.

The date of Georgia’s transiting to the digital TV standard was postponed to July, 1 due to the effects of a large-scale flooding, as NRegion reports.
According to Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Minister of Economy of Georgia, by signing the Convention Geneva 2006 the country assumed responsibility for shutting off completely the analog broadcasting on June, 17 of this year. The Ministry of Economy along with other agencies responsible for implementing the digital television did a great job, according to the Minister.
Kvirikashvili pointed out that the Government was fully prepared for introducing the digital TV, but due to the recent natural disasters the authorities decided not to cause discomfort to the population, so suffered from enormous stress. It was therefore decided to start shutting off the analog television from July, 1, starting with Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.
We shall recall that today the Republic of Moldova has already started transiting to the digital TV broadcasting standard, and 97.8% of Serbia’s population has already digital TV reception available.
