Turkish telecommunications holding has been negotiating with oligarch Akhmetov on buying out 45% shares in Astelit» (life :), as Ekonomicheskaya pravda (Economic truth) reports, referring to the original source.

Turkcell actually owns 55% of shares through the Dutch holding Euroasia Telecommunications Holding BV.

San Dillon, an expert in telecommunications, believes this decision of the Turkish holding   is reasonable, since it will contribute to the operator’s early large-scale transition to 3G. The shares of the Turkish company in Astelit he estimated at USD 393 million.

In February of this year Astelit obtained a license for 3G by paying UAH 3,355 billion by auction. Debut commercial service 3G networks have been already launched in Kyiv and Lviv.

The Turks can get their share in life 🙂 due to numerous operating debts of the operator. Three years ago, Astelit and other directly affiliated companies experienced multiple defaults on the debts to banks and the Turkish subsidiary of the holding. The company Turkcell consequently received in pawn from the Ukrainian company all its property, including cash accounts.

Turkcell also wants to buy a 3G department in the Ukrtelecom. It is expected that the transaction will be concluded in the third quarter of the present year. Negotiations are in progress.
