On June, 22, during an extraordinary meeting of the National Assembly of Armenia Artur Arakelyan, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications announced that the country’s final transition to the digital TV, scheduled for July, 1 of this year, would be postponed to January, 16, 2016.

It is reported by PanARMENIAN.Net. According to the source, the key reason for postponing the transition to the digital is the social component of the program. The government was obliged to provide digital receivers to the low-income households, but the announced tender wasn’t held, so the authorities decided to extend the deadline.
In April, the Armenian government considered it reasonable the suggestion of the People’s Deputy Edmond Marukyan to introduce amendments to the law on Radio and TV, providing for postponing the analog TV shut-off in favour of the digital one by 2017.
Meanwhile, Gagik Beglaryan, the Minister of Communications, said that the agency was not against postponing the transition to the digital, but the final terms still required further detailed discussion.
Beglaryan also added that digitalization would ensure liberalization of certain frequencies, and thereby would result in increasing the state budget revenues.
