Alexander Zharov, the Head of the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications of Russia (Roskomnadzor), and representatives of the US Company Discovery met to discuss further principles of the Media holding’s operation under the laws of the country, as the web-site of the regulatory authority informs.

Alexander Zharov, JB Perrette, the President of Discovery International, and the Media Group’s top managers discussed issues concerning the changes in legislation on the participation of foreign agents in the Russian media. The Media Group’s representatives confirmed their willingness to restructure business subject to the laws of the state.
We shall recall that since January, 1, 2016, foreign shareholders can own the media’s share of up to 20%. It considerably affected the market of advertising and pay-TV in Russia. Due to these changes, the operation was suspended by TV Universal Channel and E!, as well as CNN, which, however, in March of this year obtained a new broadcasting permit and came back to the Russian viewers’ screens.
Mediasat also reported early this month that the State Duma of Russia could review the law On Mass Media and soften the restrictions.
