The Parliament passed the amendments to the TV and Radio Broadcasting Code, providing the legal framework for transiting to the digital terrestrial television. Following the publication of these changes by the Monitorul Oficial, the Coordination Board for Radio and Television (CBRT) will be able to issue licenses for broadcasting by using digital ground multiplexes.
Moldova’s need to transit to the digital terrestrial television stems from the commitments undertaken by the country itself when signing the Regional agreement on planning of the digital terrestrial broadcasting service Geneva 2006, which was signed by 104 states. The state-owned company Radiocomunicaţii has already gained the license for building the first multiplex with national coverage, and with the public TV channel Moldova 1 connected to it in a test mode.
