Yesterday the President of Ukraine signed the Law On Amendments to Some Laws of Ukraine to Ensure the Transparency of Media Ownership and Implementation of State Policy Principles in the field of Television and Radio broadcasting, which provides for all TV channels and providers to submit information about their beneficiaries in a mandatory way.

The new instrument obliges the media to disclose information about the corporate structure and the major shareholder.
It is also prohibited the creation of radio and television organizations by legal entities from offshore countries or by businessmen of other but Ukrainian nationality. The media can not be established in Ukraine by the residents of those states recognized by the Cabinet of Ministers as the aggressor ones.

The Law approved by the President also imposes new obligations on the National Council, i.e. the regulatory authority is required to provide justifications of its decrees on issuing broadcasting licence or its denial. The National Council can not impose any restrictions unprovided by Ukrainian laws on rebroadcasting programs, which keep within the agreement on cross-border broadcasting.
