According to a source, Russia would like to sell its project “Sea Launch”, so as not to spend money on its maintenance.

The sources in the space industry state that the maintenance of the project “Sea Launch” costs nearly USD 30 million.
According to rumors coming from Moscow, the operator of the project “Sea Launch” is either put up for sale or is looking for an investor who would buy out a stake in the business.
As the Russian news agency TASS informs, the annual operating costs of the project “Sea Launch” total around USD 30 million. This project offers its customers an assembly shop and floating platform (designed on the basis of a floating oil derrick), which allows to launch rockets into orbit from the Central Pacific Ocean.
“The search for investors goes on, as reported by TASS. The negotiations are in progress. The project management faces the task to find an investor or a buyer as soon as possible to relieve the actual owners, i.e. the companies “Roskosmos” and RSC “Energia”, of the financial burden associated with maintaining project infrastructure, including sea-craft above all”
