Belarus is going to become part of the community of countries with their own satellites.
The design of the broadcasting satellite Belintersat-1 (formerly known as BelarusSat-1) became possible due to the contract with the Chinese company China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC).
The satellite constructed on the Chinese DFH-4 platform will be equipped with C- and Ku-band transponders manufactured by the Thales Alenia Space. It will be put in the orbital position 51.5°E, to be brought there by the Chinese launch vehicle “Long March-3B”.
The design life of the satellite, designed to provide communications and TV and radio broadcasting services, is fifteen years. The ground satellite control station is located in Belarus, in the Minsk region. The approximate date of putting it into operation is January of this year. The construction of teleporter is to be completed by March of this year.
We shall recall that the Nigerian company The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT), as the winner of the international tender, will provide the Belorussian satellite with in-orbit testing services (IOT) and carrier spectrum monitoring (CSM) over 15 years. This was stated by one of the top-managers of NIGCOMSAT.
According to Mrs. Abimbola Alale, Managing Director at NIGCOMSAT, the deal relative to the satellite Belintersat-1 will bring Nigeria millions of dollars and give employment to hundreds of Nigerian engineers.

We shall point out that in case of successful start-up operations and putting into orbit the satellite Belintersat-1, Belarus will keep ahead of Ukraine in creating the national satellite communications system (NSCS). The NSCS successful implementation in Ukraine requires launching into orbit the satellite Lybid, the launch window of which has been shifted for various reasons from year to year over the last several years. The advantages of such a system were featured by Mediasat in the article “The history, illusions and reality of the national satellite communications system”.
