The Belarusian State University (BSU) will launch two CanSat-type satellites in July 2016, as reported by the news agency BelTA, referring to the BSU’s press office.

The source explained that the launch of the satellites would be possible due to the successful presentation of scientific projects made by students of the university’s lyceum and students of the university itself at the qualifying panel of the 5th Innovative Education Championship, being held in Russia within the CanSat Program.

The satellites will be launched in the town of Dubna at the final stage of the Championship in July 2016. The press office of the Belarusian State University informed that their students would be required to demonstrate a satellite weighing up to 1 kg. That satellite will be launched to an altitude of near 30 kilometers by using a stratosphere balloon. The lyceum’s students will be required a satellite weighing up to 550 grams. All the equipment for the latter’s operation, except for a parachute and antenna, must fit into a standard soda jar. The satellite will be launched to an altitude of about 1 km by using a rocket.

The qualifying round of the CanSat Championship in Russia involves near 200 students and schoolchildren from Russia and Belarus.

The Mediasat reported before about putting into orbit the first Ukrainian nano satellite “PolyITAN-1”, which was designed by a group of young scientists and engineers at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”.
