The subscriber base of HD-Service of the largest satellite pay-TV operator in the Russian Federation increased up to seven million. And that is 50% of all HD-households in Russia. It was reported in the press release, a copy of which is available to Mediasat.
According to the operator, since January 1 this year the HD-services have been joined by 400,000 new subscribers, amounting to the total of 7 million subscribers. This is 59% of the total user base of the “Tricolor TV”’s services.
The press release states that the provider is eager to increase this figure up to 100% by early 2017, giving up SDTV in favor of HDTV. Fundamentally, 100% of new customers subscribe to the HD-package even today.
According to Mikhail Goryachev, Chief Content Officer at the “Tricolor TV”, the transition from SDTV/MPEG-2 to the HDTV/MPEG-4 is a fully anticipated evolutionary stage of the pay-TV market development, and the operator is intent upon doing its best to facilitate this development by providing a new level of TV viewing to subscribers.
