The State Service for supervision over the observance of the antimonopoly legislation of the Russian Federation approved the acquisition of the Turner’s assets by the NMG and the Discovery.
The relevant information was posted on the Service’s website.
The subsidiary “Discovery Holdings”, jointly set up by the Russian National Media Group and the US Discovery, was allowed buying two thirds of the companies “Turner Children’s Programs” and “Turner Information Programs and Lifestyle”.
The intention of the subsidiary of the NMG and the Discovery to acquire Russian channels of the Turner Group and to become the rights holder of the Russian version of Boomerang, Cartoon Network and CNN was declared as far back as in December. Thus, it was planned to make its content offer more inclusive, mainly due to the children’s TV channels, which would complete the existing ones Discovery Science, Discovery Channel, Eurosport News, Animal Planet, DTX, Eurosport 1, TLC, Eurosport 2, ID Xtra.
In February this year, the Federal Antimonopoly Service already authorized the “National Media Group” to acquire 80% of the company “Synergy”, a unit of the Baring Vostok Capital Partners, which owns the channels TV1000 Action, TV1000 and others.
