April 6, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decreed that the country would transit to the digital TV and radio broadcasting standard on June 30 next year. This is reported by the edition “Ukrayinska Pravda”.
The Mediasat featured that the National Broadcasting Council previously approved the date of the analog TV signal’s cut-off.
According to Leonid Yevdochenko, Chairman of the State Special Communication, setting up public digital TV in the country requires a frequency resource, which is now available only to the “Zeonbud”.
Yuriy Stets, Minister of Information Policy, stated that the monopoly company was managed directly by the family of the fugitive ex-President Yanukovych. According to him, this may lead to disabling broadcasts of all TV channels and radio stations in the State.
As assured by Mr. Yevdochenko, this issue has been addressed by the working group composed of representatives of the State Special Communication, National Broadcasting Council and telecom market.
We shall recall that under the Geneva Agreement Ukraine had to transit to the digital broadcasting on June 17 last year.
