Issue №126 of the newspaper “Holos Ukrainy” dated July 8 published the Law of Ukraine “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Relating to the Share of Pieces of Music in the State Language on Radio and TV”, which was passed by the Verkhovna Rada on June 16.

Now in accordance with the law, in the time intervals between 07:00 and 14:00 and between 15:00 and 22:00, the share of Ukrainian-language songs shall be 35% of the radio stations’ airtime. However, the quotas will be introduced gradually, i.e. the share of above compositions will be 25% in the first year after this law’s entry into force, 30% in the second year, and 35% in the third one.

For radio stations, which have 60% of content in the EU languages under license conditions, the share of Ukrainian-language songs is 25%.

The law also stipulates that radio announcers and presenters shall host   60% of the daily broadcasting content in Ukrainian, including news and analytical blocks and entertainment shows. This quota is also introduced gradually: this share will be 50% in the first year, 55% in the second year, and 60% in the third one.

The law comes into force in 4 months after its adoption, i.e. on November 8, this year.
