The National Television Company of Ukraine (NTU) is at work upon creating a Crimean TV channel. According to  Krym.Realii, the new TV channel will be set up on the basis of STRBC “Krym” and Sevastopol STRBC.

For the time being, it is already established a formal Crimean branch of NTKU, which exists virtually.

“There are actually neither technical supplies, nor editorial staff in the Crimea. At the moment, we are thinking over the editorial arrangements, which will allow the TV channel to start full operation”, as Zurab Alasania, CEO at NTKU, states.

Mr. Alasania also reports that the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine favours this initiative, and is about to support the creation of the Crimean TV channel.

Michael Smutok, former General Producer at “Pershyi Ukraine”, was appointed head of the newly established Crimean branch of the National Television Company of Ukraine.

The start of full broadcasting on the Crimean Peninsula requires addressing a series of important issues, including the financial and strategic ones. It is assumed that the new channel’s signal would by relayed via satellite, though NTKU has not yet specified the exact orbital position.
