More and more Apple set-top box users download the application with unlicensed content.

Apple TV set-top box users can download the online cinema application Seasonvar from the store, according to the Russian Association of Electronic Communications it is one of the 100 most popular pirated resources. Izvestia received this information from Alexei Byrdin, the Head of the Internet Video Association.

It remains unclear how the application with unlicensed content could be placed at the American company’s platform. Press service of the online movie theater TVZavr notes that Apple initially checks applications for viruses, and then – for the illegal content. However, the last paragraph is complied only if the company had doubts regarding content.  The agreement or other documents confirming the right to use audio and visual content are requested for this.

This was confirmed by Irina Grandel, the director of business development, partnership and Ivi.ru paid model:

“When you publish a new application on the Apple platform, and when you publish updates to existing applications, we are always applying the documents confirming the legality of our content.”

Andrei Holodny, the general director of My TV company  admits that application developers have gone fraudulently:

“The application during moderation might behave differently comparing to working in the app store, thus, pirated content might be downloaded there after the moderation.”

Yegor Iakovlev, the  founder of Tvigle online cinema, believes that the application could be filed in any other foreign country which is not aware of the situation on the Russian market:

“At the time of application filing there could be a content for which they had a certain titling. After they had passed moderation, they began to expand the amount of content – says Iakovlev. – They could not file their application via the Russian representative office because its employees are aware of what is happening in the Russian market.

But Vladimir Gaidushin, the developer of this application for online cinema, told to Izvestia that he is not responsible for the availability of illegal content:

“We are developing websites and applications, and the application was made using the API (the interface allowing third-party developers to create applications) provided by the service. This was not too difficult to get to the Apple TV Store but it was a long process. Nobody asked us about any licenses.”
