Russian operator will test the 5G technology

Russian telecommunication operator MegaFon plans to test-5G technology this month.

During the test, the operator intends to perform data transmission at the speed 5-4 Gbit/s using real prototypes of 5G-equipment. RIA Novosti newspaper writes about this with reference to Yulia Dorokhina, the head of MegaFone’s press-service.

The venue of the international business summit to be held in Nizhny Novgorod on 21 September was selected as the test area. The operator also intends to show visitors how “the Internet of things» (IoT) works with 5G technologies.

According to Lenta.ru newspaper, MegaFon is the leader on the Russian telecommunications market. Thus, it was one of the first operators that launched LTE-Advanced network where data transmission rate was up to 300 Mbits/sec. Along with this, they were one of the first who managed to achieve data transmission speed of more than 450 Mbit/sec in 4G network in commercial operation.

According to Strategy Analytics research agency, sales volumes of 5G-phones will reach 300 million by 2025.

According to Günther Oettinger, the EU Commissioner, networks with 5G technologies support can be deployed in Ukraine by 2020.
