The Russian satellite TV operator launches a new service – “City”.

The largest Russian operator of pay-TV presents the new service “City” on the market that will allow big cities residents to connect to the TV channels package by Tricolor TV. This was stated in the operator’s press release.

“City” service is a digital alternative to the familiar cable television. So, the residents of apartment buildings who have no possibility to install a satellite receiving equipment can become the subscribers of Tricolor TV using existing structured building networks owned by exploiting organizations or other operator’s partners.

However,  currently “City” service is available only in Moscow region, St. Petersburg and Leningrad region, as well as in the Nenets Autonomous district and Samara region. The Tricolor TV representatives note that the company is now negotiating  with a number of partners from other regions in Russia, and new service coverage area will be expanded in the near future.

All new subscribers wishing to connect to the new service will conclude a contracts directly with Tricolor TV. These subscribers will also be counted in the common operator’s subscriber base. They will need special receiving equipment and smart card to watch new TV channels. The signal will be decoded within the household.

“City” service suggests a connection to the “One” package with the price of RUR 250 per month, this package contains more than 200 TV and radio channels, including three dozen channels in HD-format.

“The project allows us to provide services of a modern digital television viewing to a new audience living in big cities where the satellite signal reception is difficult due to buildings density or receiving stations installing is limited by the requirements to the facades of buildings”, – says Alexei Karpov, the Director of Sales and Customer Service in Tricolor TV.

Earlier, Tricolor TV in partnership with Eutelsat  satellite operator has launched multiscreen solution on the basis of SmartBeam technology.
