Petro Poroshenko signed the Law of Ukraine “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Television and Radio Broadcasting” Specifying Terms and Conditions for Broadcasts of TV and Radio Companies under the Must-Carry Obligations”. This is stated on the official website of the President of Ukraine.

“The Law №1663-VIII was drafted in accordance with the provisions of Directive 2002/22/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 7 March 2002 concerning universal service and users’ rights in the electronic communications networks and services (Universal Service Directive), and it specifies broadcasting aspects for TV and radio companies under the must-carry obligations”, as reported in the statement on the President’s website.

The document stipulates that the must-carry list should be approved by the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine for the relevant community, where the service provider operates, taking into account the broadcasting technology.

“More specifically, the must-carry list contains broadcasts of the National Television Company of Ukraine prior to its conversion into the public joint-stock company “National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine”, as well as of local and regional TV and radio broadcasters, and the state-owned enterprise “Parliamentary TV channel “Rada” or its successor with corresponding broadcasting license”, as the statement remarks.

Let us recall that the document was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada in early October this year.
