The International telecom operator VimpelCom, which owns the Ukrainian mobile operator “Kyivstar”, decided to re-brand and change its name. This is stated on the company’s official web site.

The company is about to change its name to VEON. Moreover, the same name will be given to the new online platform to be presented at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The company pointed out that the renaming was due to the VimpelCom’s transformation from the telecom company into the technology one, and it promised a series of innovations for its customers.

The company shareholder’s meeting to approve a new name will be held on 30 March, 2017.

It is also remarked that VEON is a messenger name. The VimpelCom has already run it in Italy and plans to make it available to all its customers before the end of 2017.

In the meanwhile, the financial performance of “Kyivstar” was presented in the company’s financial statements. The company’s operating revenue increased by 11.02% or UAH 1.485 billion, against 2015, i.e. up to UAH 14.960 billion. At that, the income from the mobile segment grew by 11.03% or UAH 1.376 billion, i.e. up to UAH 13.851 billion.

The company also emphasized that the rebranding of its subsidiaries like “Kyivstar”, was not suggested.

Let us recall that the VimpelCom’s largest shareholder is the holding company LetterOne (47.9%), which, in turn, is incorporated into the Russian “Alfa-Group”.
