The test digital radio broadcasting in Latvia breaks new ground: the Latvian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Center has recently announced expanding the reception area of radio broadcasts in the DAB+ standard.

At the beginning of test broadcasts in 2016, the signal range area covered a radius of 40 km around Riga. And now, it has been enlarged up to 60 kilometers.

The coverage expansion became possible due to improving the transmitter power for the test digital radio broadcasts, from 0.5 to 1.5 kilowatts. At the same time, it was increased the number of radio shows in the DAB+ standard from 6 to 11. Five new shows, added to the DAB+ package, were previously available just over the Internet.

The Latvian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Center (LVRTC) appealed to the residents of Riga and its suburbs with a request to report on the signal reception quality in certain broadcasting area, and it can be done in a special section on the authority’s web site.

The LVRTC also informs that at the same time as the tests are underway, the authority is examining the costs and possible requirements to build a digital radio broadcasting infrastructure throughout Latvia.
