As of the end of 2016, 126 Ukrainian TV channels provided satellite broadcasting. This information was presented by the Member of the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine Sergei Kostinsky on his Facebook profile.

Mr. Kostinsky pointes out in his post that the Ukrainian channels are available to Ukraine’s residents, including in the occupied territories, due to a universal tool like satellite broadcasting.

“This is one of the most popular technologies for delivering TV signal in Ukraine, which provokes competition to the analog and digital terrestrial TV, IPTV/OTT, Smart TV and broadcasting in the cable networks of service providers”, as he states.

In general, about a third of households throughout Ukraine gets access to the national TV channels right due to satellite broadcasting.

“Today, the strategy for broadcasting development in the ATO area and the territory of the Crimea is aimed at providing additional access to the Ukrainian TV channels by applying all available broadcasting technologies. Therefore, there are built TV and radio towers, as well as there are installed analog and digital transmitters, which propagate signal to the restricted areas”, as the member of the regulatory authority adds.

The National Broadcasting Council, following the analysis of licenses and monitoring, drafted infographics of the Ukrainian channels, broadcasting via four communication satellites. However, Sergei Kostinsky specifies that today’s situation has changed slightly in view of some TV channels’ moving to other satellites or some satellite TV channels’ giving up satellite broadcasting. But in general, the satellites can provide signal reception of more than one hundred Ukrainian TV channels.
