The telecommunications satellite Amos-2, owned by the Israeli company Spacecom, suspends providing satellite services.
After 13 years of successful operation for the Spacecom customers’ benefit, the space vehicle Amos-2 is put out of service. On April 1, the satellite was removed from the geostationary orbit to be subsequently moved to the graveyard orbit.
Let us recall that Amos-2 was launched into orbit from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on 28 December 2003. Over the years, it has served customers in three regions: the Middle East (including Israel), Europe and the east coast of the United States. The weight of the vehicle is 1400 kg. According to the design documentation, its active service life was 12 years, but in fact, the spacecraft operated a bit longer.
Initially, Amos-2 was intended to replace Amos-6 in the orbital position. However, in September of last year, during the prefiring drill tests, there occurred an accident , which resulted in the explosion of the launcher Falcon-9 and, thus, the destruction of the satellite itself.
Later, the Israeli company found a substitute for the lost Amos-6. For that end, it was moved to the orbital position the satellite AsiaSat-8, which was renamed Amos-7 .
On March 28, the Spacecom in partnership with the operator “Ukrkosmos” introduced that new satellite to the Ukrainian market .
Ukrainian TV channels have already started migrating from the satellite Amos-2 to other space vehicles.
