The Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed the Law “On Government Support for Cinematography in Ukraine” № 3081-D.

This law obliges television and radio entities to grant at least 15% of their broadcasting time monthly to Ukrainian films with until 1 January 2022, and at least 30% after that day.

At the same time, the new law provides for a partial return of funds, spent by foreign and domestic producers on making films and TV series in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian leader expressed his conviction that the adoption and entry into force of that law would benefit Ukrainian cinematography and Ukrainian culture, as well as would promote a cultural development and expansion of national cinematography.

Let us recall that the Verkhovna Rada cast 230 votes in favour of adopting the law on government support for the film industry, as far back as in September 2016. However, it was vetoed by the President, who found some imperfections in the draft law.

Later on, in March of this year the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine repassed the Law №3081-D with the Ukrainian President’s amendments.
