UAH 6.3 billion UAH (USD 240 million) is the very starting cost of licenses for introducing fourth-generation communications in Ukraine.

At its recent meeting, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the terms for introducing fourth-generation communications (4G) in Ukraine.

According to the  “Zerkalo Nedeli”, the new terms cover operational requirements, tendering factors of selling licenses and their cost.

The starting cost of licenses for launching a 4G network in Ukraine, according to the Chairman of National Commission for the State Regulation of Communications and Informatization (NCCIR) Alexander Zhyvotovsky, is estimated at UAH 6.3 billion, i.e. UAH 2.3 billion in the band of 2600 MHz, and UAH 4 billion in the band of 1800 MHz.

At the same time, Mr. Zhyvotovsky expects that the first tender for 2,600 MHz would be held before the end of this year.

Let us recall that in March, mobile operators agreed on frequency reframing, which will accelerate launching 4G communications in Ukraine. However, the fourth-generation communications will initially appear only in the major cities of the country.
