President of Ukraine Signs Law on Anti-Piracy Intensification

The implementation of the law will provide for establishing an additional tool to fight against piracy and copyright violation.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed the law (No. 4571) “On Introducing amendments to Article 5 of the Law of Ukraine “On Distribution of Copies of Audiovisual Works, Phonograms, Videograms, Computer Software, Databases”. This is stated on the President’s official website.

“The purpose of this law is to improve labeling with control marks the copies of audiovisual products, audio and video records, computer software, and databases. Due to the improved marking transparency, the copyright holders will be able to effectively supervise control marks issues and promptly counter the fraud and unauthorized use of those security features”, as specified in the press release.

The press office also emphasized that the implementation of that law will allow for establishing an additional mechanism for fighting against piracy and infringement of the copyright proprietors’ rights.
