Russia made Ukraine aware of the expiry of the safe storage of the satellite “Lybid”.

Russia notified Ukraine that the warranty storage of the satellite “Lybid” is about to expire. This information was received from Nickolay Testoyedov, Head of the “Information Satellite Systems – Reshetnev Company”, which was involved in its design.

According to him, the storage period is two years. The relevant notifications have already been sent to both Ukrainian and Canadian partners; the Russian side urged them to decide whether to go on storing that vehicle or to revise the operation of its systems.

The storage of the satellite requires extension, as Mr. Testoyedov explains. If the partners refuse to carry out revisions, so the active operation period of the satellite in orbit is subject to deduct its staying on ground after the warranty expiry until it is launched. Russia is calculating the safe storage cost and will announce it to the partner after the latter makes a resolution on further actions.

Let us recall, that the telecommunications satellite “Lybid” was accepted for storage upon the client decision of the MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates in August 2014. Thus, the space vehicle has been stored for nearly two years is the facilities of the “Information Satellite Systems – Reshetnev Company” in Krasnoyarsk Krai (Russia).

The other day, Lubomir Szabados, Chairman of the National Space Agency of Ukraine (GKAU), made a statement that “Lybid” would be set into orbit by the end of present year, but then the GKAU representatives refuted that information.
