OJSC “Gazprom Space Systems (GPSS) will provide the HorizonSat Company with an opportunity to use the capacities of the satellite “Yamal 402” for broadcasting in Africa

At the CABSAT 2017 Expo, held in Dubai, the companies “Gazprom Space Systems” and HorizonSat signed a contract, implying that the first company would offer for lease to the second one the capacities of the satellite “Yamal 402” (54.9°E).

The HorizonSat will apply leased capacities to provide Internet access services to users in Central and East Africa (including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, and Tanzania among others).

According to the “Gazprom Space Systems”, the southern beam of the satellite “Yamal 402” provides a good coverage of this region, and its crossover with the European beam allows using the HorizonSat’s teleport, located in Munich and connected to the high-speed Internet backbone links.

Earlier, the capacities of the satellite “Yamal 402” were already used by the telecom company Equinoxe Television Cameroun to broadcast football matches of the 2017 African Cup of Nations held in Gabon.

In addition, the “Gazprom Space Systems” signed a contract with the Gilat Satellite Networks last year, which provides the latter with an opportunity to use that satellite for providing satellite communications services based on the Gilat SkyEdge 2-c technology to users in sub-Saharan Africa.
