The Russian operator wants to acquire some companies.
In the coming year, one of the largest Russian telecommunications companies “Rostelecom” can conclude a purchase of the share in the IT-company Maykor and the AltegroSky Group, as reported by the “Kommersant”. Given positive settling of these bargains, the “Rostelecom” is likely to become the largest player in the VSAT satellite market.
According to the operator’s representatives, at the meeting of the strategy committee of the Rostelecom”, the operator’s management approved the negotiations to buy the Maykor. As for acquiring the AltegroSky, the sources did not provide any information.
It also became known that the “Rostelecom” allocated RUR 10 billion to acquire several companies next year. They were not specified, however.
Today, the volume of the VSAT market in Russia is estimated at RUR 7 billion. If the “Rostelecom” buys out the satellite Internet operator AltegroSky, so its share in this segment of satellite communications will increase up to 25%, making it the absolute leader.
The AltegroSky Group incorporates several Russian satellite operators like CJSC “Reis Telecom” and CJSC “Moskovsky teleport”. The revenues of these companies amounted to RUR 834.3 million and RUR 392.8 million last year, and the group’s itself ones were RUR 1.7-1.9 billion.
However, the IT-company Maykor, most likely goes towards the deal with the “Rostelecom” because of its financial difficulties. Its subsidiary “CRT service” won the tender held by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and received an advance sum of RUR 2.4 billion. After depositing that amount in the bank “Russian credit” it started carrying out the order. Afterwards, the ministry was unsatisfied with the company’s work and demanded the return of the full amount, but the bank was declared bankrupt at that time.
According to the interviewee of the “Kommersant”, the funds from selling the Maykor’s share to the “Rostelecom” will be forwarded to satisfy the debt to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
