According to Sergei Kalugin, the Rostelecom’s President, quoted by the PIME edition, the “Digital Television” (DTV), a joint project of the Rostelecom and the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK), is set for the TV broadcasting markets of Latin America and China.
The Rostelecom plans to invest near RUR 2 billion in the DTV Company by the end of 2015, thus bringing the share of its assets in the company to 41.3%, which is 16% more than the actual stock.
The “Digital Television”, according to Mr. Kalugin, is going to apply those funds for promoting it in the TV broadcasting markets of India, China and Latin America. These are the countries with solvent and loyal markets to the Russian TV products.
The conquest of the Indian TV broadcasting market started in the summer. In August, the DTV entered into cooperation agreement with the state-owned broadcasting company of India “Prasar Bharati”. This agreement will allow Russian TV channels to broadcast in the Indian broadcasting networks and come into the households of 167 million Indian TV viewers.
In addition, the contract provides for mutually beneficial cooperation and exchange in cultural, entertaining, scientific, educational, sports and news spheres. The Indian and Russian parties agreed to set up joint projects for producing and promoting TV and cine products, applications for digital broadcasting, licensing activities in TV and movie industry.
The joint project “Digital Television” was created by the Rostelecom and the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company in 2014. The Russian telecommunications company in exchange for 5 TV channels (“24 Techno”, “Mother and Child”, “Entertainment Park”, “24 Doc”, “Real Scary TV”) obtained 25.3% of shares. The VGTRK holds 74.7% for its share of 13 TV channels.
