Express AM8 satellite will be launched into the geostationary orbit from the Baikonur Cosmodrome this summer, in July, as the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Russian Satellite Communications (RSCC) informs.
According to Lyudmila Mikhaylina, chief of RSCC’s department, responsible for international sales and television, the rocket Proton, which caused the launch delay as far back as on April 6, was returned for fixing. The launch will be carried out just after its operation becomes completely fail-safe.
As Mediasat reported, the satellite’s launch into the orbit was suspended due to some technical troubles, able to be fixed only within the plant’s facilities, i.e. the Khrunichev Research and Production Space Center. We shall recall that the provisional launch date was previously called mid-May.
Express AM8 will be put into the position of 14˚W, located above the Atlantic Ocean. The satellite will provide telecommunications services, Internet and digital TV. This spacecraft is also planned to be applied for live broadcasting the Olympics Games 2016 to be held in Rio de Janeiro.
