The first summer day of this year will become one more evil day in the history of the Ukrainian satellite pay-TV.
According to the press office of XtraTV, as from that day the operator suspends its activities due to the revision of the content concept. We shall recall that Xtra TV’s platform has operated on the market since 2011.
The press release states that there will be suspended broadcasting of all the thematic packages, except for football channels like Football 1 and Football 2, incorporated in the Media Group Ukraine.
DTH Broadcast Services, previously managing DTH business of Xtra TV, decided to stop providing satellite services to the operator. In its turn the Media Group Ukraine informed that Xtra TV brand would enter the holding. In addition, the media group leaves open the possibility of creating a new DTH project in Ukraine in the near future.
In this regard, all subscribers with funds available on their accounts may continue enjoying them to view the package with football channels produced by the Media Group Ukraine. In addition, it is reported that new subscribers wishing to watch football matches could be also connected to that package.
We shall recall that the nationwide satellite TV operator Lybid TV also stopped operating in Ukraine in April of past year. And in 2010, the development of two satellite operators at once on the Ukrainian DTH-market was frozen. First, in August, the financial problems affected the Surface + platform due to the company’s major investor’s leaving like ISTIL Group of Mohammad Zahoor. Then, in December, the Digital Fly Ukraine, managing MYtv satellite project, suspended its activities.
So, there remain two operators like Viasat and NTV Plus Ukraine that continue operating on the Ukrainian satellite pay-TV market.
