At its recent meeting the Ukrainian parliament casts 282 votes to pass the International Broadcasting Law.

The draft law provides for setting up an international broadcasting multimedia platform on the basis of state-owned broadcasting company “World Service Ukrainian TV and Radio Broadcasting”. The establishment of a state-owned company was considered at the meeting of the main executive authority, which will govern the company.
The main objectives of the established company will lay in defending the interests of Ukraine abroad, implementing information policy aimed at an unbiased and timely coverage of the country’s events, featuring the official position of the Ukrainian authorities on the policy inside and outside the country.
The need to create an international broadcasting multimedia platform in Ukraine is due to the need in informing the foreign and Ukrainian viewers outside the country, including in the territories temporarily out of Ukraine’s reach and ATO sectors.
The platform broadcasts via satellite and the Internet.
The Ukrainian international broadcasting relays programs in Ukrainian and English (according to the amendment passed by the Verkhovna Rada, the English-language broadcasting should not be less than 50%), but the dubbing can be also acceptable in other languages. According to Victoria Syumar chairing the Information Policy and Freedom of Speech Committee, the preferred language for Ukrainian international broadcasting remains English.
