Ukraine can now watch broadcasts of the South Korean public TV and Radio Company.

The holding “Media Group Ukraine” launches broadcasts of the South Korean channel KBS World in the interactive TV service package OLL.TV. The Mediasat got to know it at the press conference on launching that channel in Ukraine.

“The launch objective is to acquaint the Ukrainian audience with Korean culture and traditions, unique content, as well as to provide an additional opportunity to learn the language”.

KBS World вместе с каналами France 24, Deutsche Welle и другими доступен пользователям видеосервиса OLL.TV в пакете «Эфир».

KBS World, along with France 24, Deutsche Welle and others is available to users of the video service OLL.TV in the “Efir” (Broadcasting Time) package.

Let us recall that in November last year, the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio put the KBS World in the list of adapted foreign TV channels.

The channel broadcasts in Korean, without any Russian or Ukrainian localization. Subtitles are in English (80% of broadcasts), Chinese (4.3 hours a day), there are also subtitles in Japanese, Spanish, Indonesian, and Malay. The broadcasting time consists of news programs, business-oriented broadcasts and movies.

Mr. Lee Yang-Goo, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Ukraine, is sure that the partnership with the Ukrainian market will be successful and favourable for cultural exchanges. “I am pleased to see that Ukraine is interested in Korean culture, and it is much in demand”.

Iurii Artemenko, the Chairman of the National Broadcasting Council, mentioned the credit for establishing partnership, deserved by Mr. Lee Yang-Goo, who has done a lot just for 10 months in the seat of the Ambassador to Ukraine, and by Yevheniy Lyaschenko, CEO at “Media Group Ukraine”. Mr. Artemenko said that the parties were about to expand their cooperation, and some staff members of the media group were invited to Korea for training. “When we sum up the results of the National Broadcasting Council’s activities, among the important advances, I will mention discovering Korea. There was much talked about that cooperation during the present year’s Kiev Media Week, and I am sure we will talk even more. We are already negotiating with China, which has very large market, where the sales of even one Ukrainian format can result profitable. In February, we are going to India to study the local market. Over there, almost every large city has own studio, so there are enough potential partners to cooperate with”.

Yevheniy Lyaschenko, CEO at “Media Group Ukraine”, affirms that launching TV channel KBS World can be called both as a promotional and commercial project, since the media holding pursued both purposes. So far, the TV channel is broadcasting on partnership grounds. “We are considering an option to sound the channel in Ukrainian, but it is hard to find professionals who master Ukrainian and Korean perfectly. We will probably invite students of philology faculties”.

Philip Ilienko, Head of the Ukrainian State Film Agency, is optimistic about the cooperation between Ukraine and Korea in the field of cinema. “There are subjects and plots”, as he is confident.
