Ukraine held a presentation of a social project #ДАЙШАНСМРІЇ (#GIVECHANCETODREAM), aimed at Internet anti-piracy.

On Tuesday, April 25, there was held a presentation of the social and educational project #GIVECHANCETODREAM, with the participation of George Kent, Deputy Chief of the US Diplomatic Mission in Ukraine, key media figures, government and the business community.

The idea to start up the project #GIVECHANCETODREAM was advanced by the film director Lyubomir Levitsky right after his film release’s getting on once again on pirate resources, and thus loosing funds for making a new film.

According to Mr. Levitsky, the objective of the project is to improve the awareness of people who may not understand that illegal film viewing online inflicts damage to filmmakers and undermines a new film production.

The problem of copyright infringement is critical not only for the film industry, but also for other industries like the music and IT ones, among others.

The speakers, represented by George Kent (Deputy Chief of the US Diplomatic Mission in Ukraine), Lyubomir Levitsky (filmmaker and #GIVECHANCETODREAM project initiator), Nadezhda Vasilyeva (CEO at Microsoft Ukraine), Graeme Grant (Head of Internet AntiPiracy Unit at International Federation of Phonographic Industries,) and Anatoly Maksimchuk (“Clear Sky” Initiative’s Representative) emphasized the importance of protecting intellectual property rights and rising awareness of piracy effects.

So, people should realize and remember that all creative industries generate additional employment opportunities for drivers, lawyers, painters, translators and other professionals. In addition, when users steal films, shows or music, somebody loses his job and dream. As a result, the development of the entire creative layer is thwarted and the generation of new jobs opportunities in related industries is suspended.

During the event, there were presented three social videos, dedicated to video, audio and IT anti-piracy, which will be distributed on television and over the Internet.

The implementation of the project #GIVECHANCETODREAM implies educational and awareness-rising activities, including distributing the above social videos, opening access to the informational web resource and the project’s profile in social networks, in order to familiarize users with legal resources, where it is possible to watch films and listen to music, among other things.

The project #GIVECHANCETODREAM became possible thanks to the support of the US Embassy in Ukraine, the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the US Chamber of Commerce, the America House Kyiv, the Ukrainian Music Industry Association and the “Clear Sky” Initiative.
