180 thousand “Ukrtelecom” subscribers have been switched to the upgraded equipment. It was reported to the Mediasat by the operator’s press office.
Almost 800 active Huawei distribution cabinets have been already installed in the largest cities of the country, where the “Ukrtelecom” has been carrying out a technology upgrade of its network. The new equipment replaces the outdated automatic exchanges (ATS) and is functional to provide subscribers with Internet access services at a speed from 50 Mbit/s, using the VDSL technology, and up to 1 Gbit/s via FTTx.
Today, the activated Huawei cabinets already service 180,000 Ukrtelecom subscribers, who benefit from the updated network. The Internet access rate on existing ADSL lines increases to its possible maximum of more than 20 Mbit/s.
The network upgrade is part of a large-scale program of technology modernization of the “Ukrtelecom”. During 2.5 years, it is planned to upgrade the company’s network in six largest cities of Ukraine like Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odessa, Zaporizhia and Lviv.
The total investment in upgrading will reach USD 250 million by 2018.
Earlier, the Mediasat reported that the “Ukrtelecom” connected to the Internet another 26 villages all over Ukraine.
