Ruslan Tagiyev, CEO of TNS, states that daily viewing of television in Russia has grown over the past 5 years, as Vedomosti inform. But he didn’t mention the exact period of time.
As Mediasat informed before, the Russian audience of TV viewers decreased in the youth segment, while the time spent in front of a TV set increased up to 244 minutes (2.5% higher).
The average daily coverage of Russian TV viewers over the past year didn’t changed, i.e. 72% of large cities’d residents watch television at least a few minutes daily.
According to Tagiyev, Russian TV viewing over the last year has been stable thanks to the senior segment’s people. The expert associates the increasing number of people watching TV with a higher news blocks viewing, especially after the Sochi Olympic Games, and the events started on the Crimean Peninsula and the East of Ukraine.
During the first quarter of this year the Russians of senior segments spent watching TV as much time as in previous year – 270 minutes daily. TV viewing is affected this season by weather conditions and New Year’s holidays. Therefore it’s worth paying more attention to the next quarter of the year. It will become evident then, whether the channels continue generating the same keen interest.
It would seem, due to the Russian TV viewers’ interest excited by TV channels, the broadcasters could significantly increase their earnings by means of advertising. But, as Mediasat communicated before, the pay-TV revenues dropped by 60%, in view of restrictions prescribed by the Russian legislation for the advertising industry.
