The Ministry of Communications of Russia points out that the radio will not transit to the digital format.
Alexei Volin, the Deputy Minister of Communications, stated that Russian radio stations would not transit to the digital broadcasting standard so far, as reported by the Ekonomika segodnya (Economy Today).
According to the Minister, the digitalization would just increase competition in the industry. A poor situation on the advertising market will lead to the lack of funding of already existing radio stations. He therefore suggests leaving pieces of the advertising pie to the professionals.
Today, the volume of radio advertising market is much smaller than of the TV or Internet advertising ones. In the first half of 2015 the revenues of radio advertising reached their peak of RUR 6.2 billion, while the share of TV and Internet advertising amounted to RUR 61.6 billion and RUR 42 billion respectively.
