Ukrainian TV channels outside media holdings, in the context of the complicated economic situation, are seriously examining an option of shifting to satellite broadcasting from DVB-S/MPEG-2 to DVB-S/MPEG-4.

The compression change provides a significant benefit to save a bandwidth when renting a transponder, as well as reduces the TV channel’s costs. The transition to H.264 is also associated with the accident of the satellite Amos-6, the loss of which made major adjustments to the satellite TV market development.

The vehicle Amos-2 should end its service life cycle by February, and it will be put into a graveyard orbit. Amos-3 does not accommodate all comers, and not only new broadcasters, but also the existing ones. Therefore, the channels started migrating to Astra-4A and AzerSpace-1. So, the operator SatTeleCom, which incorporates TV channels of “Continent TV” like “Dacha”, “Trophy”, “Epoch”, “Fauna”, “Terra”, etc., had to move broadcasts to Astra 4A, where it tests broadcasting in MPEG-4 at the frequency of 12265 MHz, and anticipates expanding its package up to 25-30 channels.

The TV channel “Televsesvіt” on Amos-2 at 10842 MHz, and on Azersat-1 at 10974 MHz, also shifted its broadcasts to MPEG-4. Savings and optimization in our reality are a natural way to survive.

Thus, if your receiver loses the picture of a TV channel, but the sound is available, so it is not the receiver’s failure. This device is just outdated and not suitable for receiving more advanced TV formats and standards.
