Since June 17 Ukraine had to start a gradual process of shutting off analog broadcasting, but the National Council decided to postpone transiting to the digital, as delo.ua reports.

Under the international regional agreement, Ukraine should finally withdraw from the analog TV in favour of the digital one since June 17. The Ukrainian part confirmed that decision by issuing the relevant resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers dated August 18, 2010.

In early June of this year, during the consultations in the United Nations and the International Telecommunication Union Ukraine asked for changing frequency assignments, applied in the country, in the International Frequency Register.

According to the agreements with international agencies, Ukraine is authorized to use the analog TV, unless it disturbs neighbour countries. In case of such disturbances, the National Council, UCRF (Ukrainian State Center of Radio Frequencies) and the broadcaster itself would have to take all necessary actions to remedy such situations. On May 12 of this year the updated National Multimedia Development Plan entered into force. According to the document, it provides for a smooth analog broadcasting shut-off in 4 different stages, and each of them supposes turning off signal in several Ukrainian regions.
