The marketing research agency MASMI along with Afisha.mail.ru conducted analysis of the Russian film freaks’ predilections, which resulted in founding out that an increasing number of film fans prefer watching movies online. At least twice a month in the past year, 53% of respondents watched movies on the Internet (in 2012, the figure was 43%). As many respondents as nearly three years ago prefer watching movies in cinemas (52% in 2015 against 53% in 2012).

In the course of online survey there were polled 650 people from different Russian cities, who watch film products online, in cinemas or download them from the Internet.

According to the research, the number of people wishing to buy movies on discs has halved over three years (20% of people buying discs 2-3 times per month in 2015, against 34% in 2012). The broadcasts of TV series are preferred by only 35% of respondents (41% in 2012). In contrast, the number of those who prefer online views has increased up to 31% (24% in 2012), and 19% of them are ready to pay for this service.

In addition, the study results evidence that pirate services have been losing their popularity among film fans. Thus, Alexey Antropov, Head of Afisha.mail.ru, emphasizes that torrent services are not so popular because of their locking and the increased use of streaming, characterized by its simplicity and speed.

We shall recall that it was reported before that the Internet is used by over twenty million Ukrainians.
