The final switch to digital TV in Azerbaijan is scheduled for December, 1, but the analog broadcasts will also remain.

As known, Azerbaijan is one of CIS countries that have signed the Geneva Convention. According to Convention terms, the final switch to digital broadcasting in the country had to be made in 2015. As usual, the terms were not observed but recently it became known that on December, 1, 2016 Azerbaijan will finally switch to digit.

At the same time, Ali Aliyev, the Chief Secretary of the Association of Cable Operators of Azerbaijan said to concerned cable television subscribers that switch from the analog to digital broadcasting will be compulsory for air channels only. Cable TV will continue to broadcasting in the usual way.

“However, given that the majority of TV sets sold today in Azerbaijan are equipped with a built-in DVB-T receiver, so, there is no need to purchase any additional devices. The cable television will remain as before. Cable operators will continue analog broadcasting to their subscribers, do not worry about it” – said Aliyev.
